Week 7: Lincoln Roosevelt

Week 7: Podcast

Week 7: Summary

Students in the late morning SDF class completed their first large scale project of the year. Students were tasked to design and build a boardwalk in a previously underutilized space at Lincoln/Roosevelt School. Students rose to the challenge with excitement as many of them are former Lincoln/Roosevelt students themselves. Students began by designing the boardwalk in Google Sketch-Up to create a three-dimensional rendering of the space and what the design would look like before building a scale model. The boardwalk had to be built in pieces and labeled so it could be reassembled onsite. Students had to pay careful attention to precision so this would all go together. Our SDF class also worked to design a ramp portion of the boardwalk to allow for the area to be utilized by all. The class hopes to return in the spring to build garden beds for the space.

We'd like to thank Roxbury's Supervisor of Science: Ms. Denise Glenn, Lincoln/Roosevelt Principal and Assistant Principal: Chris Argenziano & Brian Hamer, and our dedicated Buildings and Grounds staff for all their help throughout this project.
