The Middle School Curriculum 

Ancient World History

Grade 7

Ancient World History is a survey course that spans from the dawn of humanity to the early middle ages. The purpose of the course is to give students a basic understanding of important event and people that will help them build a holistic narrative of the past. The course is rooted in skills such as, historical empathy, written expression, comparing and contrasting sources, expressing ideas using evidence, and working with other students to develop coherent arguments about the past.

Medieval World History 

Grade 8

The Medieval World History course is a survey course that encompasses civilizations across the globe from the late ancient world to the early modern. The purpose of the course is to give students a basic understanding of important event and people that will help them build a holistic narrative of the past. The course is rooted in skills such as, historical empathy, written expression, comparing and contrasting sources, expressing ideas using evidence, and working with other students to develop coherent arguments about the past.

Civics

Grade 7

The Grade 7 Civics course is an expedited course which explores the relationship between the US Government, primarily the federal government, and the citizens of America.  This cycle class focuses on larger themes of the relationship such as civic action, civic engagement and the influence of political parties. With the base of this courses information stemming from impermeable documents, such as the Constitution, the topics in this course span all of American history from the Bill of Rights, to Women’s Suffrage, to the most recent president debate.  The course also emphasizes the development of factually based arguments from a plethora of concrete sources.

Civics

Grade 8

The Grade 8 Civics course is an accelerated course exploring the status of the world, post World War II.  This course focuses on a number of world issues through the lense of global citizenship and how we are in an ever-developing and inter-connected world.  The course focuses on the pros and cons of Globalization, the impact of the United Nations in today’s socio-political world and the direct impact America has a world superpower.  This course incorporates the use of many sources and pushes students to build cases for both sides of an argument in a formal and persuasive manner.
